Ear Surgery
MJ Paciorek PLASTIC SURGERY What is a Ear Surgery?
Whether it’s for your child or yourself, prominent or misshapen ears can be a lifelong source of self-consciousness. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that can restore comfort and confidence by gently reshaping the ears for a more natural appearance. This procedure can be performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons.
What Otoplasty Can Address
- Ear Augmentation: For underdeveloped or absent pinna (Microtia)
- Flattening Protruding Ears: (Otoplasty)
- Reducing Ear Size: When the pinna is too large (Macrotia)
Ideal Candidates
Otoplasty may be appropriate if:
- You or your child have prominent or misshapen ears
- You’ve experienced trauma or congenital ear abnormalities
- You’re seeking correction for cosmetic or functional reasons
- You are healthy, realistic, and ready to take this positive step
What You Can Expect
Otoplasty is typically performed after the ears have reached full size, usually around age five. The surgery can reshape the ear by creating missing folds, repositioning the ear closer to the head, or reducing the size.
The procedure can be done under local anesthesia for adults, while children typically require general anesthesia. A small incision is made behind the ear, and the surgery generally takes one to two hours. The incision is hidden behind the ear, and any resulting scar usually fades over time, becoming barely noticeable.
Following your consultation, Dr. Paciorek will develop a personalized treatment plan. The procedure is performed in a private in-office surgical suite, with an individualized recovery area and nurse to ensure comfort and proper healing. Dr. Paciorek employs a delicate touch method, which supports a smooth and efficient recovery process.
After your Procedure
You will be assisted in your recovery process by our trained nurses and support staff.
Your recovery and healing process may include:
- Bandages over the ears for several days after surgery.
- A supportive loose headband is worn over the ears at night- once bandages are removed.
- Return to school or work within a week of the surgical procedure.
- Regular activity and exercise can restart within two weeks.
- Post-surgical numbness may continue for several weeks.
- Bruising may be present for up to two weeks.
- Ears may feel stiff for several months.
- Soreness, particularly at night, can last for a few months.
Whether you or your child are considering ear surgery for improved appearance, better function, or both, our team is here to provide thoughtful, personalized care—from your first consultation through recovery. You’re in skilled, supportive hands every step of the way.
Dr. Paciorek was very thorough in describing exactly how my operation would go. Knowing what to expect really helps a lot when you’re making a big change. What I really liked about him was that he described my otoplasty as an art as well as a surgical procedure.
